General overview of the role

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) is responsible for ensuring that the Company meets its data protection obligations across all countries of operation. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and participating in the Operations Board, the DPO will monitor and report on compliance and data practices to ensure that the business adheres to applicable data protection regulations. The DPO will standardize policies and procedures across the organization, including acquisitions, to ensure consistent data protection practices. Additionally, the DPO will be responsible for advising on privacy risks, staff training, data protection impact assessments, and conducting internal audits across the company.

Typical duties and responsibilities

1. Collaborate with the Senior Management Team and local DPOs to develop and monitor policies and standards in compliance with data privacy regulations (such as GDPR).
2. Conduct risk assessments and report findings to the Board.
3. Inform and advise on data protection matters, ensuring adherence to legal obligations.
4. Monitor compliance with data protection laws and internal policies.
5. Develop and implement data breach response plans, ensuring timely identification, containment, and reporting of incidents to mitigate damage and comply with regulatory requirements.
6. Oversee the efficient processing of DSARs, ensuring accurate and timely responses in accordance with GDPR and other applicable data protection regulations.
7. Ensure secure and compliant collaboration across departments and regions.

Required skills and experience

• Legal and/or compliance-focused experience.
• Strong understanding of GDPR and relevant data protection laws.
• Up-to-date knowledge of GDPR and global data protection regulations.
• Experience working with regulatory bodies on a global scale.
• Expertise in handling data breach responses, internal audits, data subject requests, and data protection risk assessments.
• Familiarity with data protection issues in emerging technologies (e.g., AI, IoT).
• Experience with privacy management software (e.g., OneTrust, TrustArc).
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.

• Flexible approach with the ability to adapt to new information, changing circumstances, and business requirements.
• Certifications such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).
• Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Capacity for independent research on regulation and legislation.
