General overview of the role

The Product Owner plays a critical role in driving product development from concept through to launch. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the product vision, prioritize requirements and ensure that high-quality products are delivered, meeting customer needs and expectations. The Product Owner manages the product backlog, makes key decisions about features and works closely with stakeholders to align product development with overall business goals.

Typical duties and responsibilities

  1. Develop and articulate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  2. Collect, analyze, and prioritize product requirements and user stories to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  3. Maintain and manage the product backlog, ensuring it is up-to-date and prioritized.
  4. Work closely with development teams to ensure timely delivery of product features that align with project scope and business objectives.
  5. Coordinate with stakeholders, including customers, marketing, and sales teams, to gather feedback and adjust product strategies.
  6. Track and evaluate key product performance metrics to make data-driven decisions and continuously improve product offerings.
  7. Continuously provide feedback to development teams, refining requirements to maximize the product’s value and align with market changes.
  8. Facilitate regular product planning, review, and retrospective meetings.
  9. Stay current with industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies.

Required skills and experience

  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a Product Owner or in a related role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of product management principles and Agile frameworks.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management and backlog prioritization.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex requirements into clear and actionable user stories.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with product management tools (e.g. Jira, Trello, Asana) to ensure smooth project tracking and execution.
