We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AWS) to join a growing US-based insurtech company building AI software for the insurance industry. Its software already runs in production at insurance companies, where it supports professional workflows such as underwriting, claims handling, and pricing. The product helps insurance teams work faster and make more accurate decisions, and its use is expanding into further parts of the business. You will join the team responsible for the external-facing APIs behind the company’s core customer workflows. Your work will centre on designing and building API endpoints, integrating third-party services, tuning database and query performance, and turning product requirements into dependable business logic.

Requirements

checked icon 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
checked icon Experience building external-facing APIs or integrations with third-party systems
checked icon Strong programming skills in Python, or in another object-oriented language with a willingness to work in Python
checked icon Experience with serverless technologies and cloud environments, such as AWS Lambda and EC2
checked icon Experience designing asynchronous workflows
checked icon Experience working with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
checked icon Strong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem-solving
checked icon A track record of taking full ownership of work and driving projects to completion with minimal oversight
checked icon Proactive communication, surfacing blockers and keeping stakeholders informed
checked icon Comfort with experimentation: testing ideas, measuring results, and iterating quickly
checked icon Excellent English communication skills

checked icon Collaborate with full-stack, data, ML, and DevOps engineers across a global team
checked icon Take ownership of features from concept through to production
checked icon Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
