The Ethical Hacker is responsible for safeguarding systems and infrastructure by identifying potential vulnerabilities and implementing effective security measures. This role involves conducting penetration tests, performing vulnerability assessments, and analyzing security risks. Collaborating closely with IT and security teams, the Ethical Hacker ensures that systems remain resilient against cyber threats while also educating internal teams on cybersecurity best practices. This position requires expertise in penetration testing and a thorough understanding of current security technologies and practices.

Typical duties and responsibilities

1. Conduct in-depth penetration testing on networks, servers, and web applications to identify security weaknesses.
2. Analyze and assess the effectiveness of current security measures, proposing and implementing improvements as needed.
3. Perform malware analysis, reverse engineering, and social engineering assessments to enhance security protocols.
4. Collaborate with other security specialists and penetration testers to develop robust cybersecurity strategies.
5. Identify and address security vulnerabilities in databases, network infrastructure, and web applications.
6. Stay updated on emerging cyber threats, industry trends, and new security technologies to protect our systems.
7. Provide clear, detailed reports outlining vulnerabilities, associated risks, and suggested remediation.
8. Educate and train internal teams on security risks, safe computing practices, and incident response procedures.
9. Conduct security audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
10. Continuously monitor for potential threats and vulnerabilities, responding proactively to safeguard the organization.

Required skills and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience in security monitoring, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
• Strong understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, HTTP, and SSL, as well as wireless networking.
• Proficiency in web application security, particularly in handling SQL injection, XSS, and other common vulnerabilities.
• Experience with security frameworks and methodologies, especially those aligned with EC-Council standards.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to various stakeholders.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
• Understanding of security best practices, encryption, cryptography, and regulatory compliance.

Nice to have/preferred skills and experience (not required)

• Experience with scripting and programming languages such as Python, Ruby, or PowerShell.
• Familiarity with cloud security concepts and security testing tools.
• Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification; additional certifications, such as CISSP.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO 27001.
• Experience conducting security assessments in various environments, including incident response.
