Backend Engineer (Email Systems, REMOTE)
We’re hiring a Backend Engineer focused on outbound email infrastructure who enjoys building fast, reliable systems and pays close attention to how email infrastructure and deliverability work.

Our client is a Portugal based company whose platform is built to simplify the process of launching effective cold calls and email campaigns, making outreach more efficient and results-driven.
Requirements

Strong knowledge of email systems and protocols such as SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, as well as DNS and mail routing

4+ years working in backend development, infrastructure engineering, or building system-level software

Skilled in backend programming languages like Node.js, Go, Python, etc., with experience building on container-based or cloud-native platforms

(like Docker, AWS, Kubernetes)

Hands-on experience growing and managing email infrastructure like Mailgun, Postmark, etc.

— whether through third-party providers or custom-built setups

Familiar with managing background task systems and message queues (e.g. Kafka, Redis Queue, or RabbitMQ) along with handling concurrency and throttling

Comfortable using tools for tracking logs, system health, and performance alerts (such as Prometheus, Sentry, Grafana, or Datadog)
Nice to have

Understanding of techniques for managing multiple sending addresses and mimicking varied user profiles

Background in building tools that connect with email platforms like Gmail or Outlook using their APIs or standard protocols (e.g., IMAP, SMTP)

Solid grasp of how to design and scale systems that handle large amounts of data across multiple components or services
Responsibilities

Design and support the backend systems that drive outbound messaging infrastructure

Build scalable logic to handle high-volume email events, including intelligent queuing and sending limits

Create systems for managing multiple domains, IPs, and sender identities across campaigns

Automate key processes like warm-ups, rotation strategies, reputation monitoring, and failover response

Work closely with the deliverability team to create tools for tracking domain/IP health, handling errors, and avoiding blacklists

Develop real-time tools and dashboards to keep tabs on system status, performance, and alerts

Ensure that the outbound systems are stable, follow industry standards, and meet compliance requirements

Continuously explore ways to boost sending volume while keeping sender reputation strong and consistent
